A new report from the Environmental Protection Agency shows that water quality in local rivers remains well above the national average.
Average phosphate and nitrate levels in regional rivers in the western region last year were the lowest in the country.
Some of the highest levels of these chemicals were logged in the midlands and east regions.
While the biological quality of lakes in the western and midlands regions averaged between 'moderate' and 'good'.
The overall findings of the report show that there has been no significant change in the water quality of lakes and rivers, but any improvements are being offset by declines
