A local senator believes the waving of school transport fees for one year will ease huge pressures on families.
That's according Fianna Fail's Eugene Murphy who says some parents will save up to 500 euro from the announcement.
He's now urging people to get in touch with the Transport section of Bus Eireann to check their eligibility transport for the next academic year.
Meanwhile the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance is also set to increase by 100 euro.
Speaking to Shannonside FM Senator Murphy says the Government is committed to helping struggling families and would like to threshold for the back to school allowance extended:
''If you don't qualify for that, again the social welfare officer can help families in extreme difficulty.
I would like to see that further extended to low to middle income families.
We know what people need, we know what families need, we know that people are under stress.
We know that families are being hit by poverty that were never hit by poverty before.''
