A Leitrim Councillor is welcoming plans by Irish Rail to re-commence a catering trolley service.
Sean McGowan says the service which ceased during the pandemic was of great benefit to older people in particular travelling long journeys.
The Fianna Fail representative says it's vital that Irish Rail re-introduce this service not partially as they have suggested, but fully.
Irish Rail said its caterers pulled out of providing services due to staffing and cuts but Councillor McGowan says there's demand for on board catering.
'It is a service that is badly wanted and I would hope that Irish Rail see that the numbers of people travelling on the trains has increased greatly , and that they will reintroduce this service, not partially, but fully, hopefully.
I fully understand that they're getting it hard to get staff, I appreciate that , but where there's a will there's a way, if they go about it and do it properly , the staff will turn up there and will be looking for the work.'
