It's been confirmed in recent days that a well-known Longford business is to close its doors in a few weeks.
A statement from McCarrick Brothers Cash N Carry confirms the company was acquired by BWG late last year, and the operation will be moving to Mullingar.
McCarrick Brothers was first established in the mid 1940's in Athlone when Arthur and Conor McCarrick joined forces to operate the business.
The company covered the midlands and parts of Connacht in providing cash and carry, and a wholesale delivery business.
The Longford branch opened in 1971, and the Athlone business later merged into another wholesale group.
Commenting on the sale of the Longford business in recent months, Pat McCarrick says it will continue very much as normal from Mullingar as 95% of turnover is delivered.
He says arrangements are in place to deliver to the remaining 5% local walk-in trade from Mullingar.
Mr McCarrick, who will be remaining in the business, says all of the staff in Longford have been offered with roles with BWG Foods in Mullingar.
