Westmeath County Council are seeking a compulsory purchase order of land in Athlone to provide close to 600 new homes. The local authority have lodged the order with An Bord Pleanála this week for the development at Kilnafaddoge. The land just off the N6 near Lissywollen and Cartrontroy is earmarked for the construction of 576 residential dwellings. Also included in the plans is a creche, landscapping and all associated works connected to a large scale residential development.
The land comprises mostly of undeveloped land along a main national route. The legislation allows the Local Authority to purchase the land for development of infrastructure in the interest of the common good. The CPO will be decided on by the higher planning authority in December.
