A woman seriously injured in an assault in Ballinasloe earlier this week has died from her injuries.
The woman in her 50s had been in a critical condition at Portiuncula Hospital following the assault earlier this week.
Gardaí attended a residence on Monday in Ballinsloe where they found a woman seriously injured after an alleged assault.
A man in his 50s, understood to be her husband, was arrested and appeared before Ballinasloe District Court yesterday.
The victim passed away from her injuries yesterday at Portiuncula Hospital in the town.
The local coroner has now been notified and a post mortem examination will take place in due course.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have any information on this incident to come forward.
