A woman has been killed following a road traffic collision in Roscommon this evening.
Gardaí were alerted to the two vehicle incident on the N4 at Doon near Boyle shortly before 5pm.
The driver of one car, a woman in her 80s was pronounced dead at the scene, while a man in his 30s who was driving the second car, was taken to Sligo University Hospital with serious injuries.
The N4 will remain closed over night with a technical examination of the scene due tomorrow morning.
Diversions are in place with traffic approaching Boyle from Carrick on Shannon diverted onto the R295 while traffic from Sligo is being directed through Ballinafad.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time or who witnessed the collision to contact them at Castlerea Garda Station.
