A woman is to appear in court after her vehicle was stopped travelling the wrong way down the M6 motorway near Ballinasloe.
The car travelled in the wrong direction eastbound from junction 17 towards junction 15
The N6/M6 is one of the busiest roads in the Shannonside region, with thousands of cars passing through Athlone and by Ballinasloe on the main Dublin-Galway route each day.
In details released to Shannonside FM under Freedom of Information a total of 128 incidents were notified to the operators of the motorway and national primary route between January 2020 and the end of May this year.
Dead animals, bags of rubbish, bales of straw and hay as well and debris or spillages are among the most common reports made to motorway traffic control centre.
Six high priority incidents were also recorded - including an abandoned vehicle on an off ramp, while multiple reports of live animals on the road network were also made to motorway authorities.
A motorist is also before the courts in connection with an incident in February of this year when a car was reported travelling the wrong way on a motorway between Junction 17 and Junction 15.
The woman driver has been charged with dangerous driving and is due back in court in September.
