Women in north Longford are being encouraged to join a new 'Hen's Shed' group which is being formed in Granard.
The group is aimed at bringing women together to learn new skills and to combat isolation, particularly for women who have arrived in Ireland in recent years.
The group's activities will be based at the Lus Na Greine family resource centre and it's hoped to set up some activities during this summer, but then begin in earnest in September.
Eileen Finan who manages the centre says the shed idea was born out of another course being run there earlier this year to help women integrate into the local community.
"It actually came out of a group reach funding that we got from Longford/Westmeath ETB to enhance intercultural work that we were doing and break down barriers between people, new communities in our own indigenous communities and it was a fantastic course and out of that, mainly women who were involved in the course all said, let's do something. Working side by side is a great way of learning skills, learning new things and enjoying themselves".
