The first physical stage of a creativity project for Ballaghaderreen has begun with refurbishment works at a former boys' school in the town.
The former St John's School was managed by the De La Salle Brothers until the building closed in 1992.
It has lain idle for almost 30 years but it has now been acquired on a long-term lease by the An Bealach project.
An Bealach is made up of a number of agencies including Roscommon LEADER Partnership, Roscommon County Council and the Western Development Commission.
It intends to develop the building as a community training, meeting and event space, and it's hoped the work can be finished by the end of this year.
