Work is to begin shortly on the new €10 million euro centre of excellence on the Athlone campus of the Technological University.
Ground works will begin early next year and it's estimated to have it finished by March of 2023.
The project will involve a 1,330 square metre extension and refurbish of existing facilities, including Research and Development and office space.
The new polymer centre will form part of the university's STEM quadrangle which includes a state-of-the-art engineering facility, the forthcoming STEM building, and the Applied Polymer Technologies gateway.
The new TUS President Vincent Cunnane says the building work next year will allow the space for additional talent, and for more Research and Development to be carried out.
