Bord na Mona needs to immediately address some barriers that would make it difficult for current and former employees to accept new roles in the rehabilitation programme.
The government this week announced 108 million euro for a major restoration project which will focus on 80,000 acres of bogs and protect the 109 million tonnes of carbon stored in these bogs.
The plan will immediately create 310 operational, engineering and technical jobs and the company stated that many of the people employed as part of this will be former peat harvesters.
