Plans for a skatepark at the former Longford Greyhound Track are well underway.
It was announced at the most recent meeting of the Longford Municipal District that consultations are taking place with a UK based company for detailed designs and layout.
The location of the skatepark on the site will be chosen by the contractor, with that due to be decided in June or July
Councillor Gerry Warnock also put forward a motion to progress a part 8 for soccer facilities to be built on the site.
He says that there's a demand for new soccer facilities in the town and the greyhound track should be earmarked for it
'I think it'll be a facility that will be able to cater for a myriad of kids in the town.
We already have the skate park Part 5 process complete and that will be good to go sometime this year.
We have the entrance opening up onto the canal, which will allow residents on the Park road and the Public to access the canal.
The next part of proposal will have to be to provide soccer facilities for the kids.'
