Longford County Council is to work on removing a pole in Connolly barracks to progress the upgrade of the town's CCTV system.
The project has been given a funding boost of 45,000 euro out of a total cost of over 200,000.
Once the pole is moved, work will begin on finalising locations and lines of sight for cameras within stage two of the project.
An application to have the scheme approved under the Gardai Siochana Data Protection scheme is expected in the summer. Educom has been awarded the contract the install the system.
