Work on the regeneration of St Colmcilles Terrace in Granard is finally getting underway with the official signing of the contract for the project taking place last Friday.
The long awaited scheme will see 20 local authority homes in the estate being totally revamped with up to date energy efficient heating systems installed.
Many of the houses have been vacant for some time now but all 19 of the homes are expected to be available for occupancy again in just over a years time.
The project is being undertaken by the Tuath Housing Association with Sammon Builders from Leitrim carrying out the work.
Local councillor PJ Reilly says he hopes the new homes will be coming on stream by September of 2024 at the latest:
'The length of time is 15 months which will bring it on to September 2024.
So that's the kind of completion of the works, it may be finished before that but that's the official completion of the works.'
