The works to renovate the historic main building of Longford's Connolly Barracks could begin next year.
There are plans for the rejuvenation of the building and the construction of a substantial one storey extension.
The renovated building could be home to a county museum, podcast studio, civic arts space among other ideas according to plans shown to the public yesterday.
It's hoped the programme will be successful in applying for €7 million in THRIVE funding following an application in the new year.

Connolly Barracks was closed in 2009 and the 4th Calvary Squadron who'd been stationed their were transferred to Athlone before being stood down in 2012.
