Advanced work is being carried out in Mohill as part of the planned public realm development.
An underground investigation of the towns' sewerage scheme is ongoing which includes a CCTV examination of the pipes.
Councillor Thomas Mulligan expects part of the existing system to be replaced which he hopes will eradicate strong smells during dry weather.
It was also confirmed at this month's Municipal District meeting that works to replace the public water main on Main Street in Mohill will be carried out in the coming weeks.
Councillor Mulligan is welcoming the news and hopes tenders for the project will be advertised over the Summer months once a survey on the sewer system is circulated.
''So I think it's good news overall there was a delay due to circumstances beyond our control. The whole project has been delayed a small bit but we're up and running now as soon as this survey is finalized and the report is ready it will be made available to us as representatives and ultimately to the public, and then we're ready to put that out for contract.''
