One of Ireland's youngest candidates in the June Local Election will contest a seat on Roscommon County Council. Sam Brooks is an 18 year old youth activist who previously represented students in the Irish Secondary School Union and Roscommon Comhairle na nÓg. The Taughmaconnell native is seeking to win a seat for Sinn Fein in the Athlone Municipal district along side running mate Joe Harney.
Sinn Fein TD for the region, Claire Kerrane paid tribute to the Roscommon man, describing him as someone that could make a difference at council level. Speaking on Let's Talk today, Sam denied that his age puts him at a disadvantage in the election.
