South Longford man Niall Dowler has quit Fianna Fáil to run as an Independent in the local elections.
The 32-year-old building surveyor will stand in the Ballymahon Municipal District on June 7th.
He contested Fianna Fáil's selection convention last August, but was unsuccessful and another candidate was later added to the ticket.

Mr Dowler says he has a range of issues he will be campaigning for.
He's been speaking to Daniel Considine about his run for a seat.
