Ballinalee native Capt Marie Carrigy says she was proud and honoured to have been chosen to read the Proclamation during last Sundays annual Easter Commemoration.
The Longford woman says she'd expressed an interest in the duty after being impressed with other soldiers from Longford and Athlone who'd carried it out in the last two years.
Capt Darren Reilly from Ballinamuck read the proclamation last year making it the second year in a row that a Longford person has taken centre stage in the ceremony.
Marie Carrigy says it was a daunting task but she was very proud to have been asked to do it even though the ceremony had to be scaled back again this year because of Covid.
She spoke on the Let's Talk show today about how she became interested in a career in the army and what reading reading the Proclamation meant to her last Sunday.
