A unique project is underway in Leitrim in recent weeks which will help walkers and visitors, as well as helping preserve local heritage.
The project will involve 54 townland names being placed on waymarker posts along the 56 kilometre Leitrim Way between Manorhamilton and Leitrim village.
The project was funded through grant aid from the Department of Rural and Community Development which was accessed by the Leitrim Way Management Committee.
It will see the names of the townlands displayed in both Irish and English on each waymarker post.
Bryan Fennell, Rural Recreation Officer with Leitrim Development Company says the townland names will be of practical help, as well as creating an awareness of local heritage and culture.
