'Keeping away from the ladies' and never getting married was a key factor in a Roscommon man living until 107, according to his godson.

Michael Coyne died yesterday as Roscommon's oldest man and the second oldest man in Ireland.

He was from Fairymount but had been living in Boyle in recent years with his nephew and carer, Neil McGarry.

His funeral Mass is taking place tomorrow in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Fairymount, at 12 noon, with burial afterwards to Fairymount Cemetery.

His godson, Austin Waldron, from Castlerea, has been paying tribute today, speaking to Eoghan Murphy.
