The lives of 145 children are in danger because of a crisis in the paediatric diabetes service in Mullingar Hospital, according to a patient's mother.
It's after the head of the service wrote to patients over serious staff shortages. The service has been cut back and is operating without any nursing support.
The HSE says it has been taking steps to ensure the continuity of the diabetes service and recognises its importance. It is used by 145 children, including Rhian Clarke, from Castletown Geoghegan in Co Westmeath - his mother, Janice Reel, says he has been used it for almost two years, as she told Eoghan Murphy.
