Gardai are expressing concern once again about the practice of members working on their own following the latest assaulty on a Garda in Cavan overnight.
A Garda, who is from Roscommon, was attacked by two men in the Blacklion area of Cavan around 2 o' clock this morning.
The Garda, who had a gun pulled on him, and who was doused in an accelerant, managed to call for help and was found at the scene in a disoriented state by colleagues who responded to his call.
He was taken to Sligo hospital for treatment to non life threatening injuries.
James Morrisroe who is GRA Representative for the Cavan/Monaghan Division described the circumstances of the incident as disturbing and highlight the need to protect the Gardai that society relies on to keep them safe.
