Sr Kathleen Melia, who is originally from Mohill, was attacked last week as she locked up her convent in the town of Midsalip in the Zamboanga region of the Phillipines.
The 70 year old who is working as a missionary in the country for the last 30 years, suffered head and torso injuries and is waiting to travel to Manilla for further treatment.
Her brother, Sean Melia, who now lives in county Kilkenny, spoke to MaryClaire Grealy about Sr Kathleen's work and the incident.
