The dream of a Centre of Excellence for Longford GAA has been given a huge boost this week with the news that a 32 acres of land adjoining Pearse Park now belongs to the County Board.
The news was announced in the last 24 hours by Longford GAA who say they were very fortunate to succeed in buying the land when it came up for auction yesterday.
The GAA says that €1 million was paid for the land which is zoned for housing or industrial use but it's likely to take millions more to build a development which will incorporate several all-weather pitches and other training facilities.
Longford GAA says it intends to begin immediately to appoint a design team to progress with plans for the development of the property.
County Chairman Albert Cooney's been talking to Anne Norris about their plans.
