8 years hasn't stopped boating enthusiast Fergal Butler searching for the wreck of his hand made classic speedboat that sank in 2015.
Sailing from Lanesboro to Athlone, Fergal encountered a severe hailstorm on Lough Ree that generated waves on the local lake.
The boat was damaged and sank almost immediately, forcing Fergal to be rescued by his back up boat.
Due to the weather and the strong winds, he was unable to exactly pinpoint the last location of Old's Cool.
Over the last 8 years, he's been sailing the section of lake the boat was last seen in, using sonar to scan the lake bed for signs of the boat.
During that time, he's located 50 wrecks, none of which was his vessel.
That changed in the last fortnight, when sonar picked up a contact he was sure was the Old's Cool.
Thankfully, over the years, Fergal had built up a great relationship with Athlone Sub Aqua club, who had dived down to wrecks of interest in the search.
On Saturday, the 28th of January, divers from the Club, including Ethan Devaney entered the water and finally found the classic speedboat.
