Longford's Mary Doherty takes Mica fight to the Dail

The government has signalled that it will improve the redress scheme on offer for people affected by the MIca controversy.

It comes as thousands of people demonstrated over the issue in Dublin. That’s the request of thousands and thousands of people who marched in Dublin city centre today.

Many of their homes have been devastated due to the presence of Mica in concrete blocks, which causes massive structural issues. Higher Education minister Simon Harris says the government does plan to change the scheme.

Housing minister Darragh O’Brien brought a memo on the issue to cabinet earlier today, and is expected to announce changes shortly. Killoe native Mary Doherty is travelling from her home in Donegal with her husband Kevin to today's protest in Dublin.

Mary says they are also in the postiton of likely having to demolish their home and pay up to another €100,000 just to rebuild it.

She says travelling to the capital city for the protest is not exactly something she or anyone else affected, wants to be doing...
