It's hoped that Longford will become a centre of excellence for the development of new sporting talent.
That's the belief of the Vice Chair of the Longford Athletics club following the submission of a planning application for the construction of a new 400 metre running track on the grounds of St. Mel's College
Plans include the I.A.A.F approved synthetic track, ancillary surface sports facilities and a grass infield area.
Speaking to Daniel Considine, John Fitzpatrick says a range of top class new sporting infrastructure has been developed in the town recently with further plans on the horizon.
