Several people claimed the amalgamation of two local dioceses is already a ‘done deal’, after a meeting in Strokestown on Monday night.
Around 80 people attended the first of six meetings about the merging of Achonry and Elphin.
It was hosted by Bishop Kevin Doran, who has led both dioceses since April.
Our reporter Eoghan Murphy was at the meeting in Strokestown, and afterwards he spoke to several people who attended.
We first hear from Elphin woman Bernadette Finnerty.
Another meeting was held in the Sligo Park Hotel last night.
There’s another one tonight in the Park Hotel in Kiltimagh at 7pm; there’s one next Wednesday, September 25, in the Athlone Springs Hotel at 7pm; there’s one in the Digital Hub in Tubbercurry on Monday, September 30, at 7pm; and the final one is in Tully’s Hotel, Castlerea, on Saturday, October 5, at 11am.
