A popular long-serving Longford Councillor has been remembered as a true servant to the people of Longford.

Well known Lanesboro man Adie Farrell passed away in Mullingar Hospital earlier this week.

A Fine Gael councillor for close to 40 years, Adie was first co-opted to his father's seat after he passed away.

The councillor, who has been described as the father of Fine Gael in Longford, lost his seat in the 2009 local elections.

Outside of politics, Mr Farrell was a long serving chairman of Lanesboro Community College's board of Management.

Taoiseach Simon Harris was represented at the funeral today by his Aide de Camp, Commandant Claire Mortimer.
