A Westmeath supplier of the alternative fuel HVO says he believes it could be a real solution for many people who can't afford to purchase electric vehicles.

The Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil reduces emissions by up to 90% and doesn't require any alterations for it to be used in diesel engines.

The fuel isn't widely available so far in Ireland and presently it's mainly used by commercial companies who want to reduce their carbon footprint.

Thomas Flynn from Mullingar who's been supplying the fuel in Ireland for the past two years says he supports calls for the government to lower taxation on the fuel to make it the same price as diesel.

He says many people would like to do what's right for the environment but the government isn't giving any real incentive for the fuel to be used so far.

He's been speaking to Anne Norris on the Let's Talk show.
