Kimberly Brady from Michigan, USA has planted her roots in Cootehill since 2014.
Kimberly Brady talks about what it was like growing up in a multicultural community, and her mother who was a Native American - Ogala Lakota—part of the Great Sioux Nation. She explains that Detroit is known for motown music, and Michigan is a driving force behind America's auto industry. From a family of music lovers, she studied art history and worked in the music industry, and later in a popular coffee retail shop. When she moved to Ireland in 2014, she initially missed the Mexican spices that she had back home, and swimming in beaches. But in order to grow and make the most of her life, she made sure to leave her American ways behind and immerse in the local Cootehill culture which is where her husband is from. She encourages migrants to be open and integrate in their host countries and not restrict themselves in their own little box. She has settled in well and has planted her roots in Cootehill, and hopes to be more involved in the community while enjoying her job as the manager of Insomnia coffee shop in the Main Street.
