Latgalian Dzintra McConnon masters the English language in Monaghan.
When Latvian Dzintra McConnon came to Ireland in 2004 to earn money, she worked in a factory where she learned Lithuanian from her colleagues. She later learned English from a dictionary while dating a Monaghan local who is now her husband of 15 years. A proud Latgalian, Dzintra will always be connected to the historical ancient tribe in east Latvia where she grew up. Now a Ukrainian Support Worker and Cultural Champion of LINC (Linking Local Irish Communities), she helps and encourages migrants to integrate in the local Irish culture, and wants to let the Irish know that Latvians may look very serious on the outside, but are warm and friendly on the inside.
