Learning English helped young Italian-Lithuanian writer Daniela Rana settle in Longford.
Daniela Victoria Rana from Ascoli Piceno, Italy moved to Longford in 2011 with her Lithuanian mother when she was 6. She has finished her Leaving Certificate exams and is looking forward to starting a career in writing. A global citizen with an Italian, Lithuanian and Irish upbringing, she can speak Russian, Italian, English, and Irish. She adores the canal in Longford which is the closest she could get to growing up beside the beach, and Rome is her go-to destination for first time visitors to her homeland. The welcoming and free nature of the Irish culture was a welcome change from the structured yet chilled siestas of Italy.
