Born and bred in northern Hungary, former opera singer Anett McCaul now owns a butcher shop in Cootehill with Irish husband.
Anett McCaul described what it was like growing up in Mosonmagyarovar, a border city in northern Hungary with her brother and their mother who imbibed in them the unique and colourful Hungarian culture. The talented singer started performing at the age of 6 and studied music at university to become a professional opera singer/performer but had to work to look after her ailing mother and brother after her father died. She worked as an au pair in Austria to learn German but still traveled to perform in different music shows and then moved to Ireland in 2007 to learn English. She developed an interest in food and nutrition and met her husband who is a butcher. They now run a butcher shop in Cootehill serving a diverse clientele.
