Nigerian Maryam Temile talks about Africa Day and moving to Cavan to find a home.
With Africa Day celebration happening in Cavan Rugby Club on May 20th, Maryam Temile from Nigeria talks about the different tribes, religions and dialects in her hometown and what it was like being brought up in a Catholic home by her parents. Her father, who was a public servant, worked hard to let her and all her siblings get a good education. She studied law and practiced the profession for two years and pursued further studies in Ireland. Maryam moved to Cavan to find accommodation with her Nigerian husband in 2006. She has integrated well in the Irish community and has found her legal background useful in her community work. Maryam encourages other migrants to keep working hard and to learn about their rights, be appreciative of their host country, and to respect the law.
