Longford’s Volleyball Legend Grzegorz Wiechec from Poland explains how he won the Federation of Irish Sport Volunteer of the Year award.

Longford Smashers Chairman Grzegorz Wiechec revealed how he came to Ireland in 2006 for a printing job with no word of English. Armed with a small thesaurus, he learned the language fast while being the only non-Irish employee in his workplace. He chaired and managed the Longford volleyball team as a volunteer for the past five years which earned him the Federation of Irish Sport Volunteer of the Year award. He encourages migrants to keep working hard and to volunteer and integrate in the Irish society. He and his wife and son are now Irish in many ways but continue to be rooted to their Polish culture.
