The Irish Hotels Federation is calling on the government to maintain the 9 per cent Vat rate on the tourism sector in next week’s Budget.
In 2011, Michael Noonan, the finance minister at the time, introduced the special rate to assist the sector, reducing it from 13.5 per cent.
There are fears the government could increase it as the sector recovers.
The president of the IHF, Joe Dolan, the managing director of the Bush Hotel in Carrick-on-Shannon, believes it’s vital it remains at 9 per cent.
He explained why to Eoghan Murphy.
