LISTEN: Roscommon business could close over rates hike

A north Roscommon farmer claims his and many other businesses could be forced to close because of huge increases in commercial rates.
A revaluation of rates is currently being conducted and, on Friday, traders in several Shannonside/Northern Sound counties received their new liabilities.
However, it’s claimed some are facing huge increases.
Matt O’Dowd has run a visitor farm, called Tullyboy Farm, at Croghan, near Boyle, for 24 years.
A family business, it employs up to 15 people at peak times and has about 25,000 visitors a year.
But he says it faces closure after his rates more than doubled, from €1,100 to about €2,600.
Matt spoke to Eoghan Murphy on this week's Bottom Line.
