One of Carrick-on-Shannon’s most iconic businesses is to close after serving the town for 80 years.
Gartlan’s operated in Main Street from the Thirties and moved to Bridge Street in 1990.
Though it’s currently a newsagent, with an internet café overhead, it has traded in various guises over the year, and currently employs ten full and part-time staff.

For Tuesday's Bottom Line, Eoghan Murphy met manager Jim Gartlan at the premises earlier – he first told him what the business was like in the early years.
