Only 34 per cent of Irish weddings took place in a Catholic church last year. That's in stark contrast to the 1990s, when over 91 per cent of weddings were celebrated in a church.
These findings are in a report published by the Iona Institute, which found many people are opting for 'new age' weddings.
Iona Institute member Breda O'Brien and Enda Harte Officiant of the Spiritualist Union of Ireland spoke to Joe Finnegan on the JF Show.
