Martin Wilson from Sligo is a qualified carpenter who served his time between 1976 and 1980 and he's concerned that if someone doesn't shout stop soon , and invest in the trades like blocklaying, roofing and carpentry, then the country will lose these skills that were built up over generations.
His concerns come at the same time as the CAO has announced that's its to overhaul the way in which students apply for third-level education which will include a connected system for a wider range of further education options and apprenticeships.
Martin has been talking to Joe Finnegan today about his concerns and what he believes needs to happen next to safeguard the trades for the future.
