More than 250,000 Irish people could be due to benefit from a significant pension boost, pushing their pension from the UK as high as €14,000 per year.
Thousands of Irish people worked in Britain and paid the equivalent of our social insurance, giving them access to a British pension.
But many former UK workers who return to Ireland forget about their entitlements.
Irish residents who worked in the UK but have gaps in their National Insurance contributions are able to buy back up to 18 years of contributions at a relatively low cost, giving them access to the full pension.
Thousands of people are yet to apply for the top up, but there is still time to apply - and receiving the full UK pension has no impact on the Irish State Pension.
However, there are long delays for many people, due to the high number of people applying to avail of the scheme.
The deadline for applying for the scheme is 5th April 2025.
