14-man Leitrim bowed out of the Connacht SFC following a 0-15 to 0-6 defeat to Sligo at Carrick-on-Shannon.
A poor first-half display proved detrimental from a Leitrim perspective. Sligo were eight points clear at the break before eventually finishing with nine points to spare.
Lleitrim were down a number of players, having figured for the U20 team last Wednesday night.
The hosts could’ve scored a goal eight minutes in. Pearce Dolan’s attempt on goal was deflected over the bar for a point by Sligo goalkeeper Aidan Devaney.
Leitrim failed to score during the remainder of the half. Nine unanswered points saw Sligo lead 0-9 to 0-1 at half-time.
Canice Mulligan pushed Sligo nine points clear four minutes into the second half. However, Leitrim eventually rediscovered their scoring touch
Points from Leitrim’s Darragh Rooney, Darragh Cummins, Evan Sweeney and Ryan O’Rourke made it a seven-point game on 52 minutes.
Nathan Mullen restored Sligo’s nine-point cushion on 65 minutes. Two minutes later, Leitrim were down to 14 men as Shane Quinn was sent off.
Darragh Rooney and Mikey Gorden traded a point each thereafter as Sligo ran out convincing winners. Andy Moran's men are now headed for the Tailteann Cup. Whereas, Sligo will meet Galway in the Connacht semi-final on April 20.
