Andy Moran can’t wait for next Wednesday’s big Connacht U20 group decider.
Moran’s Leitrim team face Roscommon in Ballinamore with a knock-out place up for grabs, with all teams still in the mix.
A last gasp Sligo penalty denied Moran’s side victory last night. Whereas, Roscommon grabbed a share of the spoils with an injury time equaliser against Galway.
It means, Leitrim, Roscommon and Mayo are all locked on three points ahead of Wednesday’s final round. Whereas, Sligo have two points and Galway top the table with five.
The group winners progress to the final, while second and third place enter the semi-final. It means it all comes down to the last day!
“I would say one thing about the Roscommon team, they have huge character” declared Moran. “They were down again, six-five with a minute to go and came back”.
“Against Sligo they were six-two down and they really went after it and got a draw. It just shows Connacht football is really competitive” Moran declared.
“We haven’t got a team in division four next year. Everything is division three up”.
“It’s a massive game next week” said the Leitrim boss of the Roscommon fixture. “We’ll be checking results throughout the game. Isn’t that great to be in the middle of April and be that competitive”.
Sligo comeback sends group to final day
Luke Marren’s penalty in the third minute of injury time denied Leitrim victory and a step closer to the semi-final. However, Moran was far from unhappy with his sides outing.
“How proud would you be of the boys? That was some effort” Moran smiled. “Down to Markievicz Park, Sligo needed to win the game. We come out and put on a performance like that! That was incredible”.
“We’ve 35 fellas on the panel” added Moran. “They’re the most honest gang of lads. Their’s a gang of boys there who haven’t got any minutes. Their on a squad, their here, their togged their ready to go”.
“In times past those lads would be gone, but their, a tight group, an honest group”.
