Aoife O’Rourke secured silver at the Strandja international tournament with a unanimous victory over Anastasiia Shamonova of Russia.
The 2020 Olympian was always in control and scored a unanimous 30-27 victory across the card.
O’Rourke took the first round with all four judges scoring the round 10-9 in the Castlerea woman’s favour.
O’Rourke used her reach advantage well in the first round, landing one good right to the body in the opening minute.
The reach advantage played into O’Rourke’s favour and she landed a solid jab in the final minute to win first round 9-10 across the board.
O’Rourke picked up in the second round where she left off, producing a decent combo one minute in. The defensive work kept Shamonova at bay and was enough to score another 10-9 win across the board.
Dominating the opening minute of the third round secured the bout for O’Rourke. The early exchange enough to secure silver and book a fight for gold.
The Castlerea boxer ran down the clock and will now fight for gold on Saturday.
