Aoife O’Rourke will begin her 2024 Paris Olympic middleweight campaign against Elzbieta Wojcik of Poland.
The Castlerea boxer will begin her campaign on Wednesday July 31st. The bout begins at 8:52pm Irish time.
A victory for O’Rourke would see her fight for bronze against Valentina Khalzova (Kazakhstan) or Atheyna Bylon (Panama). Should O'Rourke advance, the quarter-final is set for August fourth.
Victory in that quarter-final would see O’Rourke advance to a semi-final on Thursday August eight.
Defending champion Lia Qian of China was placed on the opposite side of the draw and can only meet O’Rourke in the final. Qian beat O’Rourke in the Tokyo 2020 first round.
Kellie Harrington recieves bye
Meanwhile, defending Olympic champion Kellie Harrington was seeded in the lightweight draw, receiving a bye.
Harrington will face the winner of Alessia Mesiano (Italy) and Gizem Ozer Turkey in the last-16 on Monday at 1:45pm.
Elsewhere, Bantamweight Jennifer Lehane received a bye in round one. The Meath boxer will face Yuan Chang of China in the quarter-final on Tuesday July 30th.
Featherweight Michela Walsh also received a bye and will face Svetlana Staneva in the last-16. The Bulgarian who also received a bye in round one.
Whereas, flyweight Daina Moorehouse also received a bye. Moorehouse will meet seventh seed Wassila Lkhadiri of France in the last-16. Grainne Walsh will meet Hungary’s Anna Luca Hamori in their welterweight round one meeting at 3:22 on Sunday.
In the men’s division, Tokyo 2020 welterweight bronze medallist Aidan Walsh will meet Makan Traore of France in round one. The bout takes place on Sunday at 10:32am.
Meanwhile, Dean Clancy opens his lightweight campaign against Obada Alkasbeh of Jordan on Sunday at 3:22. Featherweight Jude Gallagher received a first round bye and faces Carlo Paalam of Philippines at 1:30 on Wednesday.
On Monday, heavyweight seventh seed Jack Marley fights Poland’s Mateusz Bereznicki at 6:32pm.
