Athleague were crowned Roscommon senior hurling champions for the 20th time ever following a 3-12 to 0-15 win over parish rivals Tremane in Athleague today.
Tremane led 0-10 to 2-3 at the half-time break before an improved second-half display saw Athleague record a 3-12 to 0-15 victory.
A Ben McGahon goal gave Athleague a two-point buffer on 10 minutes before points from Niall Kilroy and Darren Gately restored parity three minutes later
On 18 minutes Cormac Kelly scored Athleague’s second goal and four minutes later Robbie Fallon added a point putting two points between them.
Niall Kilroy was outstanding for Tremane and his three unanswered scores gave his side a one-point buffer at half-time.
Tremane stretched their lead to two points on 35 minutes after a score from Aengus Lyons was sandwiched by a brace of points from Kilroy.
Robbie Fallon subsequently registered Athleague’s third goal on 37 minutes and they held a three-point buffer at the second water break after hitting two of the next three scores.
Athleague out-scored their opponents 0-5 to 0-2 in the final quarter which resulted in a 20th county title for Padraig Mannion’s men and their first since 2018.
