St Brigid’s are hoping to end an 11-year wait for an All-Ireland club title on Sunday when they face Derry side Glen in the decider at Croke Park.
The intermediate and junior titles were decided last week. Brian would’ve taken an interest in the latter as his father hails from Listowel.
The Kerry side tasted defeat at the hands of Arva. While It wasn’t the result Brian or his father hoped for, both of their attentions have turned to the senior decider.
“He (his father) would’ve been disappointed but I suppose he has next week to fall back on so hopefully it’s a different result.”
For St Brigid’s it’s their first final appearance in 11 years. The Kiltoom men were narrow winners over Ballymun Kickhams that day.
The current squad contains a few survivors from that side, including his brother Ronan. Stack feels they’ve an ideal blend of youth and experience.
“We have a few lads still standing in the dressing room who were there that day, they’ve been able to coach us through training over the Christmas and these big games.
“But on the flip side, it’s good to have the fresh youth doing it for the first time and to have that youthful mentality where you can go out and give it your best shot.
“It’s important to know that these days don’t come easy for the young lads. It’s not going to happen every year so you have to take the opportunity when it’s there in front of us.”
Glen will be tough opponents
St Brigid’s qualified for the final after beating Cork’s Castlehaven in the last four. Glen atoned for last year’s final defeat to Kilmacud Crokes by beating the defending champions in Newry.
Stack is under no illusions about the challenge that awaits the Connacht champions.
“They’ve some really established footballers, obviously Derry are going really well at the moment as well. They’ve some big players for the Derry side and will definitely need watching.”
